This project site is located to the south west of Mzuzu city in the northern region. The project aimed at improving the income and nutrition of 45 farm families (15original and 30 POGs) in Mzuzu through placement of pigs( 2 pregnant gilts and 1boarperfamily) and provision of training in improved pig husbandry, vegetable gardening, family nutrition and environmental conservation. 15 of the project families benefited from the original placement of 2 pregnant gilts and a boar per family while the remaining families benefited from passing on the gift of animals, knowledge, skills and other project resources. The project contributed to conservation of the natural environment through the use manure as organic fertilizer and provision of alternative sources of income for families that relied on burning and selling charcoal for their livelihoods.
